Country: France  Region: Comte Tolosan IGP  Grape: Malbec (Vintage 2015, Red)

Comte Tolosan is an IGP covering wines made in a large area of South West France. This plains region, a part of the Aquitaine Basin, falls between the Pyrenees, the Massif Central and the Atlantic to the west. Spain lies to the south, with the famous vineyards of Bordeaux to the North.

The area has a largely maritime climate taking influences from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean. A rainy spring season provides plentiful hydration throughout the year. Hot, sunny summers and long, warm autumns provide a lengthy ripening period. The IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) was introduced in 2009 in order to bring French wine labeling in line with European Union standards.

Made from 100% Malbec grapes, it is an intense red nectar with aromas of violets, blackberries, blueberries and just a touch of vanilla. A bit rustic, but with round flavors and soft tannins, this BBQ wine pairs perfectly with sausages, burgers, rotisserie chicken, pork ribs or pasta dishes. Enjoy it soon, as it will not benefit from aging. Best served at room temperature or slightly chilled.

Vino San Esteban Malbec Reserve:

MALBEC — This small, red-fruit/black-skinned grape, acutely sensitive to its growing environment, is traditionally used in Bordeaux blends to enhance both color and significant tannin, native to southwestern France. The level of ripeness dictates the structure of the eventual wine. Notably grown in Mediterranean regions but successfully grown elsewhere, this was the grape responsible for the legendary “Black Wine of Cohors” of nineteenth century fame. With a thick skin rich in color pigments, small amounts of Malbec are traditionally used to color correct and balance the acidity of blended wines. As a stand-alone component, Malbec wines are outstanding.
